Africa Cup of Nations (aka the “lights bearer”)

Great celebration last tonight, even in my ghetto because Ghana defeated Equatorial Guinea 3-0 in the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations and will play against Ivory Coast in the final match on Sunday. By the way Guinea’s supporters didn’t take it well and at 82″ the game was interrupted for a while because they were throwing bottles at Ghana’s fans trying to mar the game. Even the police was escorting players off the field…

For the occasion of today’s game, as for the other games Ghana played in the competition, the government switched on the lights in my area (and apparently in most parts of the country) to allow the nation to watch the game. The news reported that Ghana bought 80MV of emergency electricity from Ivory Coast, the same country they will face on the final on Sunday! And there was probably some left overs because as it didn’t happen in weeks we are having lights almost nonstop for about 24 hours! Let’s hope the government will pay all the bills by Sunday and won’t leave any debts with Ivory Coast! 😉
